KIDS ONLY: Fly as Co-Pilot on a Helicopter Ride Over Sydney for their Birthday!

The most exciting children's birthday gift idea they'll ever receive. Children love receiving gifts on their birthdays, but what do you get a child who already has everything? The perfect birthday gift for kids is an experience that is exciting, interactive, and helps them learn something new. That’s exactly what we’ve created with our special Helicopter Co-Pilot Experience for kids in Sydney.

This birthday helicopter package is a thrilling learning experience full of surprises, including taking the birthday boy or girl on a scenic helicopter flight over Sydney. From the moment you arrive at our hangar, your child will be involved in every part of the helicopter flight. They’ll learn about the physics behind how helicopters fly, have the opportunity to ask their Pilot an endless amount of questions, and take the front seat as a pretend Co-Pilot on their very own helicopter flight over Sydney!

The best part of this helicopter experience is being there for the very first moment your child experiences the magic of helicopter flight. This opportunity comes only once in a lifetime and will become a memory your child carries with them forever... "That time Mum and Dad took me in a helicopter!!"

We've delivered this experience to over 100 lucky birthday boys and girls, and all the parents have told us that their kids simply cannot stop talking about their helicopter ride for weeks and months after their flight.

📸 Itinerary

What are some of Sydney’s famous landmarks that your children will see during their birthday helicopter ride?

Your 20-minute private helicopter ride over Sydney will take your child on an exciting adventure through the skies, offering stunning aerial views of more than 10 famous landmarks. Along the way, your pilot will share fun and fascinating facts about each spot, making this not just a flight, but an unforgettable learning experience:

  • Sydney CBD: Fly over the heart of Sydney, where the tall skyscrapers touch the sky. Did you know that the Sydney Tower Eye is the tallest structure in Sydney, standing at 309 meters tall? That’s almost as high as a 100-story building!
  • Sydney Harbour Bridge: Get an up-close view of the “Coathanger,” as locals call it. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of the longest steel-arch bridges in the world. It’s so big that it can expand and contract up to 18 centimeters in the heat!
  • Sydney Opera House: Circle around the sails of the Opera House, one of the most recognizable buildings in the world. Your child will love hearing that the roof is made up of over 1 million tiles, and it took 14 years to build!
  • Kirribilli House (Prime Minister's Residence): Fly by the official Sydney home of Australia’s Prime Minister. Imagine living in a house where you can see both the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House from your backyard!
  • Fort Denison: Spot this small island fortress in the middle of Sydney Harbour. It was once a prison for the most dangerous convicts, and now it’s a historic site. The fort even has its own cannon, which used to fire every day at 1 pm!
  • Taronga Zoo: Soar above one of Australia’s most famous zoos. From the sky, you might spot elephants, giraffes, or even seals splashing in their pools! Taronga Zoo is home to over 4,000 animals and offers one of the best views of the city.
  • Elizabeth Bay: Glide over this beautiful harbourside suburb. Elizabeth Bay is known for its grand old houses, many of which were built over 100 years ago. It’s like flying over a little piece of history!
  • Watsons Bay: Take in the scenic beauty of Watsons Bay, where the calm waters meet the rocky cliffs. This is a great spot for fishing, and if you’re lucky, you might see some boats out catching their dinner!
  • Ben Buckler Point: Look out over this striking headland at the northern end of Bondi Beach. From here, you can see the entire curve of Bondi Beach. Did you know that “Ben Buckler” was named after a local resident in the 1800s who was known for his amazing feats of strength?
  • Bondi Beach: Fly over Australia’s most famous beach, where you can see surfers catching waves and people sunbathing on the golden sand. Bondi Beach is famous all around the world and even has its own TV show about the lifeguards who keep everyone safe.
  • Tamarama Beach: Continue along the coast to Tamarama, known as “Glamarama” because it’s popular with models and actors. This small beach is a favorite for surfers, and from the sky, you can see why with its perfect waves!
  • Coogee Beach: Glide over Coogee, a beach loved by families. Coogee Beach has a beautiful ocean pool called “Wylie's Baths,” which has been around for over 100 years! From the air, you can see the rock platforms where people love to sit and watch the waves crash.
  • Maroubra Beach: Complete your coastal loop with sweeping views of Maroubra, known for its long stretches of sand and powerful surf. Maroubra means “like thunder” in the Aboriginal language, a fitting name because of the booming waves that hit the shore.

Extend Your Child's Birthday Experience with a 30-Minute Helicopter Flight Over Sydney’s Northern Beaches

For even more time in the air, you can upgrade to a 30-minute helicopter flight over Sydney. This additional flight time allows your child to explore Sydney's stunning northern coastline and includes:

  • Manly Beach: Fly north to Manly Beach, one of Sydney’s top surfing spots. Manly was the first place in Australia where surfing was introduced over 100 years ago. Imagine how much fun it would be to catch a wave here!
  • Curl Curl Beach: Continue to Curl Curl, a beach known for its great surf. The name “Curl Curl” comes from the Aboriginal word for river of life. This beach is one of the best places to spot dolphins playing in the waves!
  • Dee Why Beach: Glide over Dee Why Beach, another popular spot for surfing and swimming. Dee Why Lagoon, located just behind the beach, is a haven for birdwatchers, and you might even spot a pelican from the sky!
  • Long Reef: Circle around Long Reef, where the land juts out into the ocean. This spot is famous for its incredible marine life. From above, you might see scuba divers exploring the underwater world or people playing golf on the cliff-top course!
  • South Head: On your way back, pass by South Head, the gateway to Sydney Harbour. From the air, you can see the historic Hornby Lighthouse, one of the oldest in Australia, guiding ships safely into the harbour.
  • Vaucluse: Rejoin the flight path along Sydney’s eastern suburbs, offering views of some of the most luxurious homes perched on the cliffs. These homes have some of the best views in the city, and from above, they look even more spectacular!
  • Ben Buckler Point, Bondi Beach, Tamarama Beach, Coogee Beach, Maroubra Beach: Continue back along the coastline, taking in these iconic beaches from a whole new perspective before returning to Sydney Airport.

🚁 What to expect

What to Expect During Your Sydney Helicopter Gift Experience for Kids

When you arrive at our hangar with the birthday boy or girl, you’ll start by relaxing in our customer lounge as we prepare the helicopter for your flight. Your pilot will meet you here and invite your child to be Co-Pilot for the day. From there, they’ll receive exclusive behind-the-scenes insights into how helicopters fly, the main controls in the cockpit, and what it’s like to be a helicopter pilot. Your child will have the opportunity to ask any questions they’re curious about, making the experience interactive and engaging.

Next, you’ll head out onto the tarmac for a mini-photoshoot. Take photos with your child inside and outside the helicopter, and you might even catch a glimpse of another helicopter or a private jet landing at Sydney Airport.

Once on board, your child, as Co-Pilot, will get to sit up front and help the pilot go through the starting checklist and start the helicopter. You'll all be wearing Bose aviation headsets, allowing you to hear the chatter of air traffic control and communicate with the pilot during the flight.

The helicopter will then pick up into a hover over the helipad and set off towards Sydney Harbour, climbing to 1000ft (approx. 300m) in the air. As you orbit the city, your Co-Pilot (the birthday girl or boy) will be asked to help spot popular landmarks like the Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, Bondi Beach, and Taronga Zoo.

If you've upgraded to the 30-minute scenic flight option, the journey continues along the northern beaches, offering views of Manly, Curl Curl, and Dee Why, before circling back towards Sydney’s eastern coastline.

Your entire flight will be captured in full HD video, including the audio recorded via everyone’s headset, so your kids will be able to relive the experience over and over again. Once you’re back on the ground, your child will receive a personalised souvenir as a thank you for being an amazing Co-Pilot.

You’ll also receive $350 worth of gift vouchers that can be used by you or given to friends and family for a scenic flight, a winery tour, or a “You Fly The Helicopter!” experience as a special thank you for allowing Rotor One to celebrate this special occasion with your children.

This special birthday gift experience for kids is guaranteed to be something they won’t be able to stop talking about for days or even weeks after the helicopter ride. They’ll be telling all their friends about how they flew in a helicopter, how helicopters are able to fly, and all the amazing landmarks they saw from the air.
