The first part of your itinerary is going to take place right in Darwin City, so you can get a feel for the city of Darwin before going on the greater adventure. The first stop on your bucket list should be the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, usually described as the cultural gallery of the northern region.
Inside this art gallery, you'll find various exhibits about aboriginal art, traditional art, weather, history, and much more. If you're someone who wants to find out about indigenous culture and aboriginal art, this is the place to be.
From there, you can walk over to the Darwin Botanic Gardens, full of amazing plants and flowers, before heading to Mitchell Street, where plenty of bars, cafes, and restaurants are all within walking distance of each other.
If you have some extra time, you can always visit the Darwin Military Museum at the East Point Reserve near Fannie Bay., with installations about World War II and much more. While in the area, you could also visit Crocosaurus Cove, which features the world's largest display of Australian reptiles.
2. Darwin Helicopter Pub Crawl

In the afternoon, go on a Darwin Helicopter Pub Crawl, an amazing combination scenic flight and pub crawl. Drop the tour bus and board a private helicopter that takes you from Darwin to some of the Top End's most iconic pubs.
The tour starts in Darwin, where you will lift off and see the Darwin Harbour, Stokes Hill Wharf, Fannie Bay, East Point, and the tidal flats - all of which are excellent if you want to see where the ocean meets the Australian outback.
While in the helicopter, you might see magpie geese, saltwater crocodiles, and yes, the Adelaide River. Your pilot will then land a variety of pubs, including Goat Island Lodge, the Darwin River Tavern, and the Berry Springs Tavern.
Here, you'll find interesting personalities, cold beers, and plenty of pub fare. It's a great way to see many parts of the Northern Territory that most never get to see. The combination of scenic helicopter flight and pub crawl make this by far one of the most exciting items on this itinerary.
3. Darwin Waterfront, Cullen Bay, and Mindil Beach Sunset Market

You can then finish the first day in Darwin down by the water, at the Darwin waterfront. Here, you'll find a manmade lagoon, wave pool, swimming pool to let you cool off before dinner.
You'll also find many restaurants with relaxed atmospheres, many of which are within walking distance of various Darwin accommodations.
While you're down here, grab a taxi to Cullen Bay and Cullen Bay Marina, which also happens to be lined with bars and restaurants - all perfect for an evening meal. If you really want to take things to the next level, you could take a short boat cruise or sunset cruise in the harbour.
Next, if it happens to be the dry season, head over to the Mindil Beach Sunset Market for live music, local crafts, and food stalls - hands down one of the biggest attractions in the city of Darwin.
Day 2 in Darwin
Day two in Darwin will include an extensive trip to the Litchfield National Park, a private swim tour, and a visit to the territory wildlife park. This day is all about seeing nature and going for some refreshing swims.
4. A Drive to Litchfield National Park - Florence Falls, Wangi Falls, and Swimming Holes

Take the Stuart Highway and drive to the Litchfield National Park. This is one of the most diverse national parks in Australia. You can start at Florence Falls, where twin falls cascade down into swimming holes that are surrounded by forest - it's just a short walk to a refreshing swim.
Next, head over to the Wangi Falls, another favourite thanks to its cascading waterfalls, picnic tables, and shady lawn - making it another great spot to relax and take a dip. In this park, you'll also find abundant wildlife, lookouts with great views, and magnetic termite mounds.
You can easily get a car rental in Darwin and take a self-drive day trip here, but be sure to prepare adequately, especially if it's wet season. That said, if you want to see this national park from a different perspective, you don't want to drive, and you want to add an element of excitement to the mix, the Litchfield private swim tour below is likely more your speed.
5. Litchfield Waterfall Private Swim Helicopter Tour

If you want an exclusive experience, trade the car for a private helicopter and take off to Litchfield National Park with Rotor One. When it comes to spectacular scenic flights, this is by far one of the best.
You take off from Darwin city in a state-of-the-art helicopter and fly to the park in just over an hour. You'll get to fly over floodplains, termite mounds, sandstone escarpments, and more, as well as the Wangi Falls and Florence Falls - all magnificent sights to behold from the air.
The highlight of this tour is the private swim at Sandy Creek Falls - waterfalls which are otherwise inaccessible. Here, you and your partner or small group can go for a private swim in the plunge pool - one of the best swimming holes around.
If you want to take things to the next level yet again, Rotor One also offers the option to extend this into a full day tour that also involves a helicopter pub crawl - turning this into a combination private waterfall adventure, helicopter tour, and pub crawl.
6. Berry Springs & Territory Wildlife Park

Right up the road, you can then head over to the Territory Wildlife Park, which offers an immersive look into the various ecosystems in the Top End.
You can walk through monsoon forest exhibits, aviaries, and even a massive aquarium. You'll get to see huge saltwater crocodiles, birds, and other wildlife in a compact space.

7. Darwin Heli Fishing Tour

The last day of your Darwin itinerary should include the Rotor One Darwin Heli Fishing Tour. This is one of the most exclusive experiences in the Northern Territory.
This is a genuine adventure that has you flying over tidal flats, wetlands and escarpments in a private helicopter - providing one of the most scenic and breathtaking views possible. However, that's not the main part of the attraction.
The main attraction is being flown via helicopter to a variety of secluded fishing holes which would take hours to drive to, with some not being accessible by car at all, making a helicopter landing the only real way to get there.
Of course, there are some of the best fishing spots around, from secluded sandy edges of riverbanks to coastal creeks, you'll find barramundi and so much more.
All of the fishing gear is supplied, so you don't have to worry about preparation. Even better is that the pilots are very familiar with the waterways and can position you in a suitable spot no matter the time of day. So, you'll be able to catch fish no matter your experience level.
There is also the option to upgrade this heli fishing tour to a combination heli fishing tour and pub crawl. This means that you get to start the day fishing some of the best spots in the country, followed by a tour of Australian outback pubs, all with delicious brews and food.
8. Kakadu National Park

If you've got some spare time, take a trip to Kakadu National Park, an area full of breathtaking landscapes and cultural significance. You can catch a small boat cruise across the wetlands, where you'll see plenty of local wildlife.
Not only is this national park full of wildlife, but ancient aboriginal rock art as well. These panels of rock art hold thousands of years of story and language - making it a must-visit spot for anyone interested in the history and culture of Australia. Just remember, you'll need to get park passes.
9. Elsey National Park and Katherine Hot Springs - Back to Darwin

On your way back to Darwin, stop by Elsey National Park, another spot with palm-lined natural thermal springs. The Katherine River feeds secluded pools, making it a great place for a quiet swim, especially after a long day of exploration.
Then, drive along the Stewart Highway back to Darwin in time for Dinner on the Darwin Waterfront. Choose a nice restaurant to have a gourmet dinner at, and you've got yourself a fitting end to one of the best trips around.
Of course, you can always make your own custom itinerary that involved even more elements than this, so choose wisely, because with limited time in Darwin, choosing the best activities and experiences is essential.
