A great aspect is the dairy flat farm that can be seen right from the dining room, illustrating its commitment to fresh produce, with fresh from the ocean seafood and fish, crisp greens, and fine wines that round off every dish.

As the helicopter moves inland, the landscape transitions to rolling farmland, dense forests, and vineyards stretching across the countryside.

The flight path passes by the Macedon Ranges, known for its wineries and rugged scenery, before landing at Daylesford. The approach provides a great view of Daylesford Lake, surrounded by lush greenery, historic buildings, and the renowned Lake House Restaurant sitting by the water’s edge.

Upon touchdown in Daylesford town, you'll betransferred via a short 5 minute ground transfer to Lake House Restaurant where your lunch reservation including a multi course a la carte dining experience and matched wines awaits.

The culinary philosophy at Lake House is centered around what is known as “the art of the vegetable”, celebrating the natural flavours of each ingredient through careful preparation and presentation.

The meal begins with a selection of house-made sourdough, followed by a small bite from the chef, which changes daily based on what is freshly available.

Entrée options often include a combination of seafood, seasonal vegetables, and handmade pasta, with dishes crafted to highlight the freshness of the produce. Main courses may feature sustainably sourced fish, premium meats, or entirely plant-based options, all complemented by locally grown herbs and accompaniments.

The dining experience continues with a cheese course, featuring selections from regional and international producers, paired with house-made crackers and preserves. Each course is paired with a specialty wine that perfeclty complements the flavours in front of you. Lake House’s cellar earned the Australian Wine List of the Year award from Gourmet Traveller Wine for its outstanding selection, along with awards for the Best Victorian Wine List.

Dessert brings a mix of fruit-driven and chocolate-based creations, often incorporating flavours like citrus, nuts, and spices. The meal ends with a selection of teas or espresso, along with a small sweet bite to finish the experience.

📍 About the destination

About The Lake House Restaurant

Lake House Restaurant is a destination dining experience found on the shores of Lake Daylesford. Known for its seasonal, farm-driven menu and its connection to the surrounding region, it has earned a place among Australia's most celebrated restaurants.

The dining room holds two Chef Hats from the national Good Food Guide, and the wine list has been recognised for its depth and quality. A team passionate about hospitality provides all guests with an amazing experience, pairing inventive dishes with carefully curated wines.

Under the direction of Culinary Director Alla Wolf-Tasker AM, the kitchen works closely with local growers and small-scale producers, including their own Dairy Flat Farm. Located just minutes away, this 40-acre property supplies much of the restaurant’s produce, with vegetables, herbs, fruit, and edible flowers harvested daily.

Dairy Flat Farm also houses an orchard, an olive grove, a vineyard, and a bakehouse specialising in slow-fermented sourdough. These elements shape a menu that changes with the seasons, reflecting the best of what the land has to offer.

The dining room is designed to showcase its lakeside location, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of the water, silver birch trees, and native wildlife.

Guests can enjoy an aperitif on the outdoor deck before their meal, often spotting kookaburras, cockatoos, and the occasional kangaroo in the surrounding gardens. As the evening progresses, the atmosphere shifts with the light, enhancing the sense of place and connection to the natural surroundings.

The menu celebrates the region’s produce with dishes built around the restaurant’s signature approach, “The Art of the Vegetable.” Each plate highlights the quality and integrity of the ingredients, whether through heirloom vegetables from the farm, sustainably sourced seafood, or premium meats from trusted producers.

Guests might begin with a dish featuring just-picked broad beans, snap peas, and burrata, followed by hand-crafted pasta, seafood with a delicate sabayon, or a wood-fired meat course with farm-grown accompaniments. Each meal concludes with carefully composed desserts, house-made preserves, or a selection of artisanal cheeses.

Lake House Restaurant has been at the forefront of Australian destination dining for decades, with Lake House’s beverage program highlighted by Gourmet Traveller Wine Awards. It continues to set the standard for hospitality, offering an experience that is as much about the setting and service as it is about the food.
