Overview - Tandem Skydiving on the Great Ocean Road with return Helicopter Flights from Melbourne

Skydiving the Great Ocean Road just got even more exciting with a helicopter ride from Melbourne direct to your skydive drop zone at Torquay Airport or Barwon Heads Airport.

If you’re planning a tandem skydive, the ultimate way to upgrade your skydive adventure is to skip the 1.5 hour commute and arrive by helicopter with a 35 minute scenic helicopter flight from Melbourne’s Essendon Airport and private landing at the Skydive Great Ocean Road drop zone in Barwon Heads.

The best location for skydiving outside Melbourne, skydiving the Great Ocean Road is a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience combining amazing views of Torquay, Bells Beach and the Great Ocean Road with the ultimate adrenaline rush of an accelerated free-fall for 60 heart-pounding seconds which are unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.

Rated one of the best outdoor activities in Melbourne, your tandem skydive adventure at 15,000ft begins with a skydiving safety briefing from your highly-qualified and experienced tandem instructor. After being securely strapped to your tandem instructor, you’ll enjoy a short flight up to flight altitude when the plane doors will open and the pilot will give your tandem instructor a “green light” for your tandem skydive.

Stepping outside the plane your adrenaline will kick in and, before you know it, you’ll be experiencing the extremely rare feeling of accelerated free-fall at 220km/h on your way back to earth. As your parachute deploys and you ease back to gentle flight,  spectacular views of Torquay Beach, Bells Beach and the Great Ocean Road will come into view as you spend your final few minutes in the air floating back to your drop zone.

Where are you located?

Rotor One is located at Hangar 7 Wirraway Rd, Essendon Fields and off-street parking is available next to our building. When you arrive look for the red door that says 'Melbourne Heli'.

Do you depart from other locations, like the City Helipad?

We depart from Essendon Airport as you have an amazing view of the Melbourne City skyline from the moment you step onto the tarmac. We can arrange helicopter pickups from regional airports including Lilydale, Coldstream, Barwon Heads, Torquay and others upon request. We unfortunately do not offer flights from the City Helipad on the Yarra River.

When should I arrive?

For a relaxed experience, please arrive 10 minutes before your booking begins.

Can bad weather prevent us from flying?

Yes, adverse weather conditions such as low cloud, fog, heavy rain or high winds may require your flight to be delayed or rescheduled. If this is the case, your pilot will call or SMS you at least 2 hours prior to your flight.

Google says it's going to rain. Should I reschedule?

We will make a "Fly" or "No Fly" decision on the day of your flight. If bad weather is present on the day, we'll call or SMS you at least 2 hours prior to your booking.

There's no need to contact us to reschedule based on Google or Apple's weather forecast. These forecasts often change on the day (especially in Melbourne!) and we monitor live weather data from the Bureau of Meteorology every day before we fly.

We'll do everything we can to get you flying on the day, wherever it is safe to do so

Can I use my camera or phone during flight?

Yes, we encourage you to take as many photos and videos on the ground, and in the air, as possible.

What should I wear?

Please bring a pair of sunglasses and you're welcome to wear clothing appropriate to the weather. We do recommend a wind-breaker jacket for any sunrise / doors-off flights and also when flying on our 12 Apostles tour as both experiences can be windy.

Why do I need to provide my weight?

We use this to calculate the weight and balance of the helicopter prior to flight. If you have any guests weighing over 120kg or a combined passenger weight of more than 240kg, please contact us prior to booking.

Are there age restrictions for children?

We only recommend flights for children over 4 years of age and every child must occupy their own seat and pay the full seat price.

Do I need to be double vaccinated to fly?

We encourage all our passengers to be double vaccinated to fly.

Can I bring any luggage?

Light handbags and small backpacks weighing less than 5kg can be carried. For any larger items please contact us prior to your flight.

Can I fly if I'm pregnant?

Yes, and we recommend flying prior to your third trimester.

Can I fly if I'm in a wheelchair?

Yes, our hangar is wheelchair-accessible and we warmly welcome passengers with special needs. Please contact us if you have any questions.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please see our cancellation policy for more information.

Contact us anytime on (03) 7065 1888 or concierge@rotor.one if you'd like to make changes to your booking or have any questions.

Can I reschedule my flights?

Yes, up to 48 hours before your departure time and on up to 2 occasions. Within 48 hours of your flight we make binding commitments to ensure your Pilot and Helicopter are reserved for you on the day.

What happens if I cannot fly due to COVID-19?

If you're unable to fly with us due to a Covid restriction or isolation period, you can choose to reschedule your flight or receive a full refund.

What happens if the helicopter cannot fly due to bad weather?

Our team will call you up to 2 hours before your departure to reschedule your flight or provide a full refund.

Can I get a refund on my Gift Voucher?

Yes, within one month of purchase and as long as the Gift Voucher hasn't been used.
